Samantha Alioto Torres, born in Berlin in 1999, studies communication design in Darmstadt and focuses mainly on photography and typography.
In her work she deals with themes and people in urban space, identity as well as political and social structures in the countries Italy, Peru and Germany. She works conceptually in most of her works and tries to visualize stories told to her in the form of stagings. Problems and dangers in a society are always analyzed and questioned from a smaller microcosm in order to understand the bigger picture.
Omertà
The word "omertà" comes from Italian and is used in connection with the Mafia. It describes the law of silence or secrecy followed by members of the Mafia. The word is derived from the Sicilian dialect word "omu", meaning "man", and is often used as a synonym for "mafia silence" or "mafia code".
Mis Raices
Ethnicities, languages and external attributes that put people in minority positions and isolate them from society in many aspects of life. Discrimination, the loss of one's own culture and living far from one's roots.
Incubus
In many cultures, the incubus is described as a mythological creature that sexually assaults women while they sleep. Although the idea of the incubus has inspired numerous works of art, books and films over the centuries, the reality of sexual assault on women is not fiction.

Sinar
Photography has a special ability to offer us different perspectives on the world. Through the use of different techniques, such as the choice of angle, exposure or colouring, photographs can convey a certain mood and atmosphere and thus immerse us in another world.
That's me
Samantha Alioto Torres grew up in an Italian/Peruvian household and thus draws connections to her work. For her, photography serves to understand and question the world and the people in it, and to show them where the individual beauty of each lies.
